Who runs EcoForeman
EcoForeman is built and run by M Bilal Naeem. I started it because the numbers homeowners are given for solar panels, home batteries, heat pumps and insulation usually come from the people selling them. A free calculator that shows its working lets you check those numbers yourself before you sign anything.
Every calculator on the site is written, tested and maintained by me. Guides are researched and edited by me, and every figure in them is checked against the source it comes from.
What we publish
- Calculators for solar, batteries and backup power, heating and cooling, and electricity costs. Each one shows the formula, the assumptions behind it and a worked example.
- Guides that answer the question you usually have next, such as how long a battery will last or whether a home battery is worth it.
We write for homeowners in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia first, and use each country's own units, currency and typical rates where they differ.
How we keep the numbers honest
- Formula shown. If a result looks wrong, you can see exactly how it was worked out.
- Your numbers, not ours. Defaults are national averages; you can replace every one with your own bill, rate or quote.
- Dated sources. Prices, rates, tax credits and rebates change often. Where a page relies on them, it says where the figure came from and when it was last checked.
- Corrections. When a reader reports an error, we check it and fix the calculator or guide. Significant corrections are noted on the page.
How EcoForeman is funded
Every calculator is free and works without an account. The site is paid for by advertising and by affiliate links: if you buy a product through a link on our site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Partner links are always labelled, and a commission never changes a calculator's result or which products we mention.
